The point of going to a professional editor is to get feedback, the harsher the better, if you ask me. If they really thought you had zero talent, the responsible thing to do would have been to send back your manuscript and suggest that you take a basic writing class before spending your money on their services, unless they are predatory. It sounds like you got some solid feedback, however. Take what you feel is useful and reboot. But don’t go down the rabbit hole of self doubt because you got impartial criticism that wasn’t glowing. Fall down and get back up and understand that it is all part of the process if you want to be good at anything. It is a tremendous first step to have your work edited, but the only person who is going to trash your dreams is you, my friend. Get your ego out of the way and write your heart out.
